APPLES

The last few weeks we have been talking about APPLES! We did apple tasting, and some apple graphing. We read about how many different types of APPLES there are and all the wonderful yummy desserts and treats can be made out of APPLES. Then I made the kids some carmel APPLES! Next week we are going to make APPLE pie.

Lake Casitas Play Date

There are a few other families that are homeschooling from King’s Academy. We are hoping to meet up with two – three other families weekly. Last week we meet at Lake Casitas and just let the kids play and ride bikes. It was hot! But the kids had a good time. It was nice for us mommies to talk to another mommy about what works and doesn’t J

Owen has been practicing drawing elephants because he wants me to submit it to one of the magazines that we subscribe to and hopes to get it published. Here are two drawings.

BUTTERFLIES

Butterflies

After visiting the Natural History Museum, the kids wanted to order some caterpillars so that we could watch them make the chrysalis and turn into butterflies. I have to say, it was a pretty amazing transformation to watch.  We received the caterpillars in a plastic jar that had food at the bottom. Within 5 days they completely turned into chrysalis You then take a safety pin and pin the thin tissue like paper to the inside of the butterfly habitat. On Wednesday we had three of the four butterflies. One of the cocoons fell off the paper and I didn’t think it would make it, but we when we came home Thursday afternoon he was a butterfly flying around. One of the butterflies keep going into the cup of sugar water and he eventually died, we found him this morning. We decided to let them go in our yard this morning, just so they wouldn’t die. They were happy to fly away. It was a great learning experience and the kids enjoyed it!

I tried to take pictures of the butterflies as the flew away but they were really fast!

Playing With Clay

The kids have been experiencing with some air-dry clay.  They each made a cup, but Emma decided to break her handle off and make it into a bowl, then she decided to break it half. Like I said, they have been experiencing with clay! It was fun to watch them shape the clay into different shapes and designs. Below are some pictures for you to enjoy!
